You can use Activated charcoal products to eliminate odors and make our homes, cars, boats and many other things smell fresh, but there is sometimes a lack of understanding about how this product works as well as it does.
Activated Charcoal is Natural
The good news is that activated charcoal is an entirely natural product. Using it means that you avoid spraying unpleasant chemicals around your home; all these chemicals do is mask a bad smell. Activated charcoal starts life as ordinary, less absorbent charcoal but when it is treated with steam at exceptionally high temperatures (beyond the temperature of a domestic oven) it becomes super-porous. The highly controlled steam heating process results in active charcoal that is full of millions of microscopic holes, not just on the inside but across its surface as well.
An Activated Charcoal Fact
One gram of activated charcoal has a surface area of about 500 square meters. This is twice as big as the surface area of the average US home.

Why is Surface Area Important?
Surface area is important because increased surface area means that the activated charcoal can adsorb more gas particles. Unpleasant odors are made up of gas particles; when we remove those particles, the air in our homes becomes much fresher.
How Does Activated Charcoal Capture Odors?
This is a complex chemical process, but it can be compared to a vacuum cleaner. Just as a vacuum sucks up dust, activated charcoal filters ‘suck’ odors from the air that passes through Innofresh’s efficient filters. The odors then become attached to the carbon pores and are trapped inside the filter, just like the dust in the vacuum cleaner bag. Through their innovative design, Innofresh have made sure that the air passing through the activated charcoal is exposed to as much surface area as possible. More surface area means more odor capture.
Does Activated Charcoal Make a Mess?
Activated charcoal does not make a mess. The Innofresh designers have found a unique way of controlling charcoal dust and powder. They have achieved this by applying a ‘porous technology’ technique to the activated charcoal. This technique molds the activated charcoal into a single component, which doesn’t make a mess but is still really efficient at removing odors.
We hope that this insight into the world of activated charcoal has helped you to understand why these products are so efficient. Active charcoal filters can get rid of a range of unpleasant odors.
